Sijo Competition Rules and Information

Divisions: One division open to all pre-college students.
Prizes (funded by the Korea Institute at Harvard University):
- First ($300), Second ($200), Third ($100)
- Competition winners will be announced in AZALEA: Journal of Korean Literature and Culture.
- Winners' works may be published in the Korea Times Chicago.
Guidelines:
- Write one sijo in English on a topic of your choice.
More information on writing sijo can be found here.
- A title for the sijo is not required.
- The contestant’s name cannot be written in the document (i.e. it must be written anonymously).
- The entry should be typed in a Word document file (.doc) or Rich Text Format (.rtf).
Sijos should be formatted with 12pt Times New Roman font and 1.5-inch margins on all sides.
- One entry per student is permitted. (Students are permitted one essay and one sijo entry.)
- Entries and applications must be sent as email attachments to sejong@sejongsociety.org.
The subject of the email should be “Sejong Writing Competition Entry.”
- No application fee.
- We reserve the right to use all submitted pieces in future publications of the Sejong Cultural Society with no compensation to the authors.
- We reserve the right to not award any prizes.
All entries and applications are due by 11:59pm on April 30th, 2009.
Please note that entries submitted without applications will not be accepted!
