Event Information
The evening will feature a raffle, a music performance by Karisa Chiu (winner of the 2015 Sejong Music Competition violin senior division), and a p'ansori performance by Keynote Speaker Chan Eung Park.
Presentation topic: Korean culture on the education of American youth
Chan Eung Park (Professor of Korean Literature, Ohio State University) received her PhD from University of Hawaii, and is currently professor of Korean language, literature, and performance studies at Ohio State University. Her specialization is the research and performance of p’ansori, Korean story-singing, its performance in transnational context in particular, related oral narrative/lyrical/dramatic traditions, and their places in the shaping of modern Korean drama. She has published extensively on the theory and practice of oral narratology and its interdisciplinary connection with arts and humanities as a whole, including her recent monograph, Voices from the Straw Mat: Toward an Ethnography of Korean Story Singing (University of Hawaii Press, 2003). Park has given numerous lectures, seminars, workshops and performances of p’ansori locally, nationally, and internationally.
Raffle tickets will be available for $20 on-site and $30 remotely. The raffle prizes are two tickets to Hamilton, two tickets to a Blackhawks game & two jerseys, or a cash prize. The cash prize is limited to on-site participants only.
